Celebrating #BumpDay 2015

When I was pregnant I hated having my picture taken. I am not a fan of photography in general, much less when I felt I was the size of a house! I have a handful of photos taken during those nine months and the person responsible for them is my crazy cousin, Kathy. I remember she would drive me insane while I was pregnant. She would rub my belly, talk to it, kiss it and of course, document each interaction with a picture. Thankfully, this was before the explosion of social media so many of these photos have never seen the light of day until now.

July 22, 2015 is called #BumpDay. Today is meant to bring awareness to the challenges mom's face while trying to give their babies the best start in life. Every day around the world, about 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Each year, 1 million babies die within the first day of their life. These problems span across the world, regardless of race or location. Even in the US, one of the world's wealthiest nations, maternal and infant mortality rates are high.

Today, is all about celebrating motherhood, beautiful bumps, beautiful babies and the promise of beautiful beginnings. Other than having insane cravings for macaroni and cheese, I know I am blessed and fortunate to have had a safe and healthy pregnancy. Take a minute and post a picture of your bump (current or past) with the hashtag #BumpDay and help raise awareness for global maternity issues.

And to my crazy cousin Kathy, thank you for being a pest and insisting on taking these pictures. I promise I will do the same to you one day <3
